Issues around knife crime.

Chat’Bout is committed to participation in the fullest sense of the word. Therefore we are youth led and seek to encourage you to engage young people at the planning stage and where possible through to implementation. Chat’Bout members are part of the governance for the Groundwork Young and Successful Lottery funded Project and are engaged in the development of the strategy to reduce harm to girls and women in the city. We work with the Participation Lead for Nottingham city and will be delivering training on the participation model: “Sharing the future” which he has developed.

Our work has theoretical bases including theory of social change, Social Action and improving outcomes. We work with Dr Martin Glyn Criminologist and author of Black Men’s Desistance.  We are particularly successful in engaging young people from BME groups, and disadvantaged areas of Nottingham. Chat’Bout’s Facilitator has many years experience of working in the community, race based issues and with young people with challenges such as learning difficulties. We work closely with individuals with experience of the criminal justice system, gangs, abuse, bereavement, discrimination, experience of alcohol and drug use, homelessness and low level mental health problems within their families. We network extensively and work with other agencies to achieve the best outcomes for young people.

Chat’bout provides unique insights into the impact of these issues and has a wide reach into communities of young people who experience a range of complex issues. The group is solution focussed.. We work within an ethical framework and request everyone working with us to respect and acknowledge this.  We will never knowingly become involved with anything which potentially exploits or tokenises young people. Chat’bout members give up precious free time as they are often studying or working and we negotiate recognition in terms of provision of travel , refreshment, admin costs and vouchers where possible.  There may be charges for workshop facilitation and training.

Please contact us for further information about this.  We are happy to provide details of our framework and information about meaningful engagement and participation.

Chat’bout young people can provide training on working with young people and carry out impact assessments around accessibility and service delivery to young people.

We want to influence strategy in a number of areas which impact on the lives of young people including  reducing the impact of poverty, low aspiration, gang membership, domestic violence, sex and relationship education, policing, criminal justice and social exclusion on the grounds of race and other criteria as defined by anti discrimination legistlation.
